Pancake Day is an annual fundraising event for our Church. Once again the young members of the Church made pancakes for the congregation to have with their morning tea after the service on 23 February 2020. 

$215.25 was raised and these funds are used by Uniting Vic. Tas to help some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our communities.

Use of the funds ranges from emergency relief for families facing food crisis, to supporting homeless people into permanent accommodation; from finding work for people with disability to supporting an older person to live independently in their own home. 

Since 2002, Pancake Day has raised over $2 million for local communities across Victoria and Tasmania. 

Pancakes were traditionally cooked to use up rich foods (eggs, milk, sugar) before Lent fasting. 

Healesville Uniting Church held its annual Christmas Day Feast for the Community on 25 December 2019.

Over 60 people from our local community (and some visitors from further away) sat down together for a meal, conversation, laughter and friendship. All ages of people were there with representatives from at least 3 generations. it was beautiful to share the time with each other.

Healesville businesses and groups donated the food.

The main meal was cooked in our industry standard kitchen by a qualified and well experienced chef.

Guests arrived promptly for the meal start and the chef welcomed everyone when the meal was ready to be served. He explained that there were Vegan and Gluten Free options for the meal. The main course was beef, turkey and pork with plenty of vegetables, potato, gravy and rolls.

Dessert was a serving of delicious Christmas Pudding that had been made by a congregation member, who has a good reputation for her expertise for that type of food! There was ice cream, strawberries  and custard for dessert.

Coffee, tea and mince pies were available throughout the whole meal time. And at the end of of the meal, there were take-home packs of meat, rolls and mince pies that the guests could have.

• served up the meal; and
• shared their time with us to enjoy food and companionship

Each year, the Youth raise funds for a cause or charity of their choice. One of the many community services that is provided by  HICCI is to prepare and arrange for gifts to teenage children at Christmas time. The Youth decided that it will be a good idea to raise money that can help HICCI for this service.

The Youth spent time on cooking the food, preparing bread, rolls and salads for the meal. They served the main meal to our guests and this was followed with a serving of ice cream and cake for dessert. We also celebrated the birthday of one of the Youth and so there was extra cake available!

People were invited to contribute to the meal as a donation for this fund raiser

Voice. Treaty. Truth. were three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. These reforms represent the unified position of First Nations Australians.

In August 2019, our Youth raised $506.40 for the Great Outback BBQ initiative that is run by Frontier Services each year. This is an initiative that enables us to help Frontier Services in support for Aussie farmers doing it tough.

The Youth spent time on Sunday 11 August 2019 preparing a BBQ meal for the adult congregation members to enjoy after the morning service.

While some of the young people were cooking food on the BBQ, the others were very busy preparing bread, rolls, salads and other side dishes for the lunch.

The adults enjoyed a  great tasty BBQ meal prepared by the youth and they made a donation for the Great Outback BBQ fund.

  Our Readings during the Season of Lent invite us to stop, look and listen for the gifts that God offers to us all.

So in the activity part of our time together we looked at a table full of individual items that can be joined together and become an entertaining or useful item for us.

In the same way God encourages us to use gifts and talents for ourselves and for others.

Design of items was varied and the fruit kebabs were enjoyed by everyone at the UC Kids BBQ in Queens Park after church
